Sewickley Borough Park Family of Three | Christa Rogers Photography

This sweet family and I agreed to meet at Sewickley Borough Park for their golden hour session. It was such a beautiful day and they followed my outfit suggestions—the perfect combination! When you book a session with me I always send my Welcome Guide to help you prepare for your session. Following the outfit tips is essential to getting the look you see in my portfolio! Here is a glimpse of what you’ll get…

AVOID BLACK

As much as I adore my comfy clothes and the safety of a trust black shirt and leggings, black is something I try to steer clear of for portrait sessions. Black will instantly make portraits look heavier and darker. Now, if you're going for a more bold look, black isn't a problem, it just makes a big impact on the overall look of the portrait!

AVOID BRIGHT, WARM COLORS

Super bright reds, oranges, yellows and hot pinks can be so vibrant that they will reflect their color on to necks and faces. This can be incredibly hard to edit out and in some cases, impossible. I would work hard to avoid any type of neon colors as well for this same reason! This is not true of pastel colors, only super bright and vibrant colors create this effect.

AVOID SUPER TINY PATTERNS

There is nothing wrong with wearing a pattern! However, if you'e going to wear a pattern, make sure the design isn't smaller than a dime! That can create some weird effects with digital cameras!

COORDINATION INSTEAD OF MATCHING

If possible, aim for outfits where no one is matching but all of the colors are bright enough and neutral enough to coordinate well together! Light colors really brighten the image!

CONSIDER YOUR SESSION LOCATION

If you're shooting in a park with a lot of trees and more of a darker background, I would suggest keeping your outfits very light and neutral. If you're shooting with a neutral white wall or on a light colored beach, neutrals are great but having a tad of color may serve you well!

I am more than happy to answer your outfit questions—you can always send me picture ideas or images of the outfits you've chosen. We'll work together to make your portraits amazing!!

I'm a Cranberry Township, PA newborn photographer, specializing in newborn, baby, maternity, pregnancy, milestone, and family life portraits. I would be honored to serve your family. Book a session now!
